Leh, March 5, 2025: A delegation comprising members of Contractor Association Leh led by its Chairman, Sonam Angchuk, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS; Secretary, GAD/PWD, Michael D’Souza, IAS; Director, Industries and Commerce, Sheikh Nazir, JKAS and officials from Geology and Mining were present in the meeting.
The delegates raised several issues, including clearing their pending bills of around Rs 60 crores for the construction/infrastructure development works done by them; the need to grant temporary permits to the crusher machine holders to provide crushed stone, sand and gravel (aggregate) to contractors for constructions purposes, etc.
The HLG, after consultation with Secretary Planning and Secretary PWD, informed the delegates that efforts are being made to get the full budget for UT Ladakh from the Finance Ministry so that infrastructure development works are not hampered. He also informed the delegates that the UT Administration would focus on centrally-funded schemes of the Government of India such as CRIF and PMGSY so that fund issues are not faced by the Administration. He also asked concerned secretaries to ensure that no new works are taken up in the current financial years and instead focus on the completion of the ongoing project works.
Regarding the permit to crush machine holders, the HLG asked Director, Industries and Commerce, Sheikh Nazir to ensure that all formalities are completed at the earliest and a clause is inserted in the contract of the winner of H1 that he/she would get water and air consent along with the environment clearance from the concerned departments at the earliest so that crushed stone, sand and gravel could be supplied to the contractors at the earliest and their works are not hampered.
