Councillor Chushul Shri Konchok Stanzin tours Maan Pangong A & B Panchayats to Thank Villagers for a Decade of Support and Discuss Key Developmental Initiatives.
On 21st October 2025, Councillor Chushul Shri Konchok Stanzin visited Panchayat Maan Pangong A and B, where he interacted with villagers and extended heartfelt gratitude for their outstanding support over the past ten years during his tenure as Councillor and Executive Councillor (EC) in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
The visit marked a moment of reflection on a decade of transformation and progress across Chushul Constituency — a period Councillor Stanzin proudly described as “A Decade of Development – Das Saal Benisaal.”
During his address, Councillor Stanzin highlighted several landmark initiatives that have reshaped the socio-economic landscape of the constituency. He underscored his mission to empower women through skill development, a programme he initiated in every panchayat, which has now grown into the renowned “Looms of Ladakh” — a brand that represents Ladakhi craftsmanship at the global level. He described this as one of his biggest achievements, aimed at strengthening women’s livelihoods and creating sustainable local economies.
He also emphasized the allocation of commercial plots to 210 families of Maan Pangong A and B, which has significantly improved living standards and generated new income opportunities. He encouraged villagers to retain ownership of their enterprises, ensuring that the younger generation continues to benefit from this economic empowerment.
Highlighting major infrastructure achievements, Councillor Stanzin noted that previously unconnected villages such as Maan Pangong A were connected under PMGSY road projects. Mobile connectivity has expanded with the installation of BSNL towers at Phobrang, Urgo, Lukung, Kawa Gang, Shooting Point Spangmik, Maan, and Khakted, along with Airtel towers at Phobrang, Urgo, Lukung, Maan, and Merak.
He proudly mentioned that tap water connections have reached every household, and that all Medical Centres have been newly constructed with residential facilities for staff, ensuring better healthcare delivery in the remote region. Additionally, an Animal Care Centre has been sanctioned under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) to improve livestock health and veterinary services.
Councillor Stanzin also spoke about the rationalisation of areas under the Changthang Wildlife Act, establishment of new Medical Centres in Phobrang, Lukung, and Chibra, and the strengthening of education infrastructure under the Special Development Package (SDP). Significant progress includes the upgradation of Urgo Middle School to a High School and the reopening of Middle School Phobrang.
He further highlighted ongoing works for world-class sports infrastructure at Merak, Maan, and Maan Pangong B, which will soon become regional centres for youth development.
To promote winter tourism, he initiated the Frozen Pangong Lake Marathon, now a signature event that attracts runners from across India and abroad. He also opened new trekking routes and tourist zones, enhancing eco-tourism and local livelihoods.
Emphasising the importance of partnerships, Councillor Stanzin acknowledged the strong support of the Indian Army and NGOs in various developmental activities. He mentioned initiatives such as Army-led Sainik School coaching for Class 5th and 8th students, introduced at his request, and assured that more such programmes are in the pipeline.
The Councillor also pointed out several key contributions made during his tenure as EC, including the double-lane road from Tangtse to Pangong sanctioned upon his request to the then Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, the preparation of the DPR for Tangtse Hospital, and the transmission line project to Eastern Ladakh. As EC (Education), he worked to regularise residential schools and enhance diet allowances for residential students in Leh district.
Reaffirming his unwavering commitment, Councillor Stanzin stated, “Whether elections are held or not, I will continue my work for the people. My duty is to ensure that all ongoing and completed works are handed over to the public and benefit every household.” He assured that all pipeline projects initiated during his tenure would continue to be followed up with the concerned authorities.
He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Maan Pangong A and B for their trust, cooperation, and collective spirit, which made these achievements possible. He added that through sincere and unbiased service, Chushul Constituency has now gained national and international attention, becoming a focal point of discussion for its remarkable development and resilience.
In recognition of his contributions, Nambardar Maan Pangong A, Shri Rigzen Angdus, presented a token of appreciation and lauded his decade-long dedication, saying that the people “elected the right person for the right cause.” Nambardar Phobrang, Shri Konchok Nurboo, also extended thanks, stating that Councillor Stanzin has set an example of honest and people-centric leadership for the whole of Ladakh.
