Day 2 of Ladakh Astro Week 2026 Held at Tourism Complex Leh.
Leh, May 21, 2026: The second day of the week-long Ladakh Astro Week 2026 was successfully held at the Tourism Complex, Leh, drawing astronomy enthusiasts, tourists, students, and experts from across the region.
The programme commenced with the screening of astronomy-related documentaries, followed by an expert talk titled “The Sun: A Force to Reckon With”, delivered by Jayant Joshi, Assosiate Professor from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The session provided fascinating insights into the Sun’s structure, solar activity, and its impact on Earth and space weather.
Interactive stalls showcasing various aspects of astronomy and space science were also installed at the venue. Visitors enthusiastically explored the exhibits and participated in solar and planetary viewing activities using telescopes set up by the organisers.
One of the major highlights of the event was the Astrophotography Gallery, where breathtaking images of celestial objects and night skies captured by astrophotographers were displayed for the audience. The gallery received an overwhelming response from visitors and photography enthusiasts alike.
Among those present on the occasion were Assistant Director, Tourism Leh, Padma Angmo; Deputy Director, Archives Department Leh, Khadim Hussain; experts from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics; astronomy enthusiasts; and tourists.
The ongoing Astro Week aims to promote scientific awareness, astro-tourism, and public interest in astronomy in the unique high-altitude skies of Ladakh.
