DC-Drass inaugurates Tololing Fish Point to Boost Trout Farming and Local Livelihoods.
Drass, May 14, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today inaugurated a new fish point of the Tololing Farmer Producer Organisation Ltd. to be run by Zubair Ahmad, an Engineer who has passed out from NIT-Srinagar (J&K). The event was also attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vishal Atri (JKAS) and Assistant Registrar Cooperatives Shahid Sultan apart from concerned officials.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the sincere efforts of the budding entrepreneur Zubair Ahmad who is specially-abled but possesses immense will-power to set up his own independent venture. He informed the gathering that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate had provided the shed/space to him, to be designated as fish point, to the entrerpreneur on rent basis keeping in view of his passion to set up his business against all odds. He also appreciated the role of the Cooperative Department in the endeavour.
The fish point was set up with an aim to promote local trout fish production and to provide fresh fish to residents and commercial establishments of the area.
The Deputy Commissioner urged residents of Drass, the Army establishment, hotels and restaurants to help Zubair Ahmad expand his business by purchasing fish from his outlet. It was also stated that this initiative towards promoting fish farming among the youth and strengthening the fisheries sector in Drass will set an example.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the cooperative society and local fish farmers for taking steps towards strengthening the fisheries sector in Drass. He observed that such initiatives will help in generating self-employment opportunities, improving the livelihood of local farmers and promoting sustainable aquaculture in the region.
Local residents and members of the Farmer Producer Organisation Ltd. also participated in the event and welcomed the initiative.
