    Drass, August 11, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive inspection and review of the Youth Servies & Sports Department’s sports infrastructure including the Indoor Stadium, Ice Hockey Rink as well as the Office Complex to take stock of execution of works and assess the scope for further development. He was accompanied by Executive Engineer, PW(R&B) Mohammad Yousuf; Zonal Physical Education Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer, Zakir Hussain; Junior Engineers Shah Jahan and Mehboob Hussain.
    During the discussions at the indoor stadium, the Deputy Commissioner sought detailed information regarding the available space, upcoming facilities, need for adequate and winter-friendly washrooms, adequate designated spaces for parking and over-all layout of the stadium. He stressed on the need to ensure quality workmanship, proper planning and optimum utilization of the available infrastructure for the benefit of sportspersons and local youth. He added that the facility should be able to host UT-level and national level events once completed. Further, he expressed delight that Drass District Administration will put in best efforts to keep all the sports facilities well maintained and make their optimum use.
    Next, the Deputy Commissioner visited the District Court Complex to review the ongoing works. He expressed delight over the quality of work and passed instructions for early completion of pending works apart from emphasizing the need for proper beautification of the entire complex. He then took a look at work being executed at the nearby Industrial Area Complex. He was briefed about the project cost, various components of the project and scope for future development.
    Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the newly constructed Samagra Hostel building. He visited various sections of the building and thoroughly reviewed the hostel rooms, washrooms and other essential facilities. He also examined the overall building structure, layout and quality of construction. He directed the engineers to ensure that a washroom for specially-abled persons should be designated on the ground floor of the building. He threw light on the need for properly maintaining all essential amenities and provision of a safe, comfortable and conducive environment for students.
    Finally, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the proposed AstroTurf ground and reviewed its potential utilization for football, hockey and other sporting activities. He assessed the base preparation and surrounding areas and directed the Executive Engineer to ensure that all necessary technical aspects are properly taken into consideration during the development of the ground. He also directed that a VIP pavilion with proper washroom facilities should also be constructed at the ground. He also spoke of the need for adequate parking space at all complexes inspected during the visit and stressed on optimum utilization of the surrounding areas apart from proper landscaping.
    Directions were also given for making all new buildings of Drass should look aesthetically pleasing and that they should gel with the surroundings.
    The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the development of quality sports infrastructure and educational facilities would provide better opportunities to the youth of Drass, encourage greater participation in sports and contribute towards their overall development.
    Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner visited the International Horse Polo Stadium to take stock of arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations and to watch the march past practices. Superintedent of Police Ishtyaq Kacho was also present on the occasion besides the Zonal Physical Education Officer. Various aspects of arrangements and march past, cultural programmes and stage set-up were discussed on the spot.
