DC Kargil chairs DDMA meeting in view of recent heavy rainfall.
Kargil, August 29, 2025: Deputy Commissioner/ CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar chaired a meeting of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in view of the recent heavy snow and rain fall in the district. Another major agenda of the meeting was to discuss the network connectivity in such situations like the recent one in which the network remained shut down for almost 48 hours.
The Sub Divisional Magistrates of Shakar Chiktan, Drass, Sankoo and Zanskar and Tehsildar of Kargil Headquarter appraised the DC about various damages caused to crops, houses, roads, bridges, and other infrastructures in the recent rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the preparedness for such disasters in terms of availability of machinery and equipment. He also directed the concerned departments to provide requisition for required machinery and equipment to ensure their early procurement to ease sufferings in time of disasters.
The Deputy Commissioner also explored various means of communication when telecom network fails in disasters.
Considering the scale of damage caused to crops, houses, roads, and other infrastructure, the meeting recommended that the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) declare the recent incident a disaster under the Disaster Management Act, so that the required relief can be provided to the affected population.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kargil, Superintending Engineer PWD, Superintending Engineer PHE, ADC Kargil, Project Officer Wages, Administrative Commandant – Stn HD Kargil, Commanding Officer Air Force, ACR Kargil, DDMO, SDMs, and heads/ representatives of all concerned departments.
