    Kargil, July 02, 2026: The Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shri Rakesh Kumar, today chaired a meeting to review and streamline traffic management and vehicular movement within Kargil town with the objective of ensuring smooth traffic flow, maintaining cleanliness, enhancing urban management, and improving the overall appeal of the town for residents and tourists.
    The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil Shri Shabbir Hussain, DySP Traffic, officers from Border Roads Organisation (BRO), ARTO officials, representatives of the Merchant Association, Truck Union members, police officials, and other concerned stakeholders.
    During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on regulating traffic movement in Kargil town, managing congestion, and adopting measures for systematic movement of vehicles including Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), commercial vehicles, and public transport.
    The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that efficient traffic management is essential for ensuring convenience for the public as well as creating a clean, organized, and attractive environment for tourists visiting Kargil. He stated that improving city management and beautification would significantly enhance the tourism potential of the district and create a positive impression among visitors.
    To reduce congestion in the town, various proposals regarding movement of trucks and heavy vehicles were discussed. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for regulating the movement of heavy vehicles through suitable timings and proper traffic management measures. He also emphasized effective utilization of bypass routes to reduce traffic pressure within the main town area.
    Regarding the movement of Indian Oil tankers and other heavy transport vehicles, he directed the concerned stakeholders to ensure smooth and regulated movement through proper implementation of rules and rotational arrangements, including a turn-wise system wherever necessary.
    The issue of loading and unloading of goods by commercial vehicles in the town area was also discussed, with emphasis on adopting a regulated mechanism to avoid unnecessary congestion and obstruction to traffic movement.
    The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that roads and highways passing through the town should remain free from congestion and obstructions to facilitate smooth transportation and improve the overall appearance of market areas. He observed that aesthetically appealing and well-managed market spaces can contribute significantly towards attracting more tourists.
    Stressing the importance of beautification, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged stakeholders and market representatives to promote businesses and establishments that enhance the tourist experience, including souvenir shops, cafés, and other tourism-oriented facilities.
    He further directed the Municipal authorities to undertake improvement of footpaths in a planned and standardized manner, ensuring proper design specifications including suitable height and pedestrian convenience. Directions were also issued for conducting a survey of footpaths and identifying areas requiring improvement.
    The Deputy Commissioner instructed concerned authorities to identify designated parking locations for school buses to avoid roadside congestion and facilitate safer movement of traffic. He also emphasized ensuring hassle-free movement along Circular Road and called for measures to keep the route free from unnecessary obstructions and congestion.
    During the meeting, discussions were also held regarding shifting of the entry post and related municipal arrangements at Kharul, deployment of traffic marshals at important locations, and strengthening coordination among departments for effective traffic management.
    The Deputy Commissioner urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards developing an efficient, clean, and tourist-friendly urban environment and stressed that coordinated efforts would play a vital role in improving the overall civic and transport infrastructure of Kargil town.
