    Kargil, December 05, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar today chaired a review meeting at Zanskar to assess the functioning and progress of various departments operating in the sub-division.
    During the meeting, the DC conducted a department-wise review, covering Education, Rural Development, Revenue, Health, ICDS, LRLM, PHE, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, KREDA, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and other concerned departments.
    On the issue of stray dog management, the DC was informed that sterilisation is currently not feasible in the region. He directed officials to ensure availability and administration of anti-rabies vaccines as a preventive measure.
    Reviewing the education sector, the DC sought details on the overall performance and percentage achievements and instructed the department to ensure steady academic progress despite harsh winter conditions.
    In the power sector, he emphasised that alternate power backup systems should be used responsibly and heaters must be avoided to prevent excessive load. He noted that while Raru Hydro Project supplies power only to Padum, all other areas continue to depend on DG sets, and instructed the department to ensure uninterrupted power in winter.
    The DC directed the DPO, ICDS Kargil to prioritise and promote products of Self Help Groups (SHGs) under LRLM in all ICDS-linked activities.
    He also instructed the Executive Engineer, PHE to conduct a detailed review and submit a comprehensive report on the challenges related to non-functional water supply during winter, along with actionable measures. Issues pertaining to horticulture, agriculture, LRLM and other departments were also discussed, and necessary directions were issued for timely redressal.
    The DC also stressed not to leave the station without permission of competent authority.
    The meeting was attended by SDM Zanskar along with District Officers from Education, Rural Development, Revenue, Health, ICDS, LRLM, PHE, Power, Agriculture, Horticulture, KREDA, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and other departmental heads and sub division officers and officials.
