DC Kargil Reviews Status of Drinking Water Facilities in Zanskar.
Kargil, May 09, 2026: The Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Chairman DWSM, Shri Rakesh Kumar IAS, chaired a detailed review meeting regarding water supply schemes being executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Zanskar.
The meeting was attended by the DC Zanskar (virtually), ADDC Kargil, ADC Kargil, SE, PHE & I&FC Kargil (virtually), Chief Planning Officer Kargil, Programme Officer ICDS Kargil, District Panchayat Officer Kargil, District Social Welfare Officer Kargil, AD FCS&CA, Executive Engineer PHE Kargil, Executive Engineer Hydraulic Zanskar (virtually), District Planning Officer Education Kargil, DTL PMU, IEC Coordinator and other officers and officials.
At the outset, the Chairman, DWSM was presented with a detailed presentation highlighting the physical and financial progress of water supply schemes in Zanskar.
The agenda of the meeting was, status of drinking water facilities in schools, anganwadi centres, health institutions, and government institutions. The meeting also reviewed the functioning of water supply schemes during winter and discussion and submission of the District Improvement Plan.
The Chairman, DWSM directed the DC Zanskar to prepare a District Improvement Plan for water supply schemes in Zanskar, including source stabilisation, connections for unconnected households, new water connections for newly constructed houses, and water connections for newly constructed government buildings, in coordination with the Executive Engineer Zanskar, and submit the same within six days.
The Chairman, DWSM directed the DC Zanskar to conduct a detailed review of water supply schemes executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission and also review the status of water supply facilities in schools, Anganwadi centres, health institutions, and government buildings in Zanskar.
The Chairman, DWSM also directed the DC Zanskar to nominate an official to assess the status of tap water connections in schools and colleges and submit a report to the SDM office within seven days.
Further, the Health and ICDS Departments were directed to submit the status of tap water connections installed in health centres and Anganwadi centres falling within Zanskar.
The Executive Engineer Zanskar was directed to submit the Central Implementation and Reform Plan within four to five days and also ensure the handover of schemes to the VWSC members.
The Chairman, DWSM directed the SE, PHE & I&FC to complete all pending works related to laboratories established under JJM in Zanskar and finalize all documentation required for NABL accreditation.
The Executive Engineer PHE Zanskar and BDOs of Zanskar, Karsha, and Lugnak were also directed to work in close coordination for the smooth functioning of water supply schemes in Zanskar.
