DC Leh Chairs Coordination Committee Meeting on Horticulture Development Plan under MIDH.
Leh, June 28, 2025: The Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk IAS, chaired a District Level Coordination Committee meeting under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) to discuss and finalize the Annual Action Plan of Leh District under this scheme on June 28 at VC Room DC ofiice Leh .
The session began with a detailed presentation by Chief Horticulture Officer Kunzang Wangmo, who outlined the draft zone-wise target allotments under MIDH for the year 2025-2026 across Leh, Khaltsi, Kharu, Nubra, and Saspol zones. The presentation followed-up with Small Nursery Public sector, upgrading nursery infrastructure, import of planning material, establishment of new garden including fruit crops like (apricot, pear, plum, cherry, sea buckthorn, new orchards of apple etc), Mushroom Cultivation, Flowers like (cut flowers, bulbous and rhizomatic), Aromatic and Medicinal plants, new orchards of Almond and Walnut, Rejuvenation / replacement of senile plantation , Naturally ventilated system including (tubular , cost of planting materials and mulching plastic jute) among others.
DC Leh engaged in a detailed discussion on various components of the proposed plan. He raised queries regarding Mushroom cultivation and its implementation, Bulbous crop cultivation, rejuvenation strategies, Tubular structures, their cost, specifications, and the type of paper used, including its square dimensions.
Chief Horticulture Officer also elaborated on the achievements and initiatives undertaken in the previous years, which included on-spot demonstration on Canopy Management at Nurla village, exposure visits of farmers to MOC Saspol and Centre of Excellence (COE) Nimoo , establishment of new apricot orchards with scientific layouts, development of the Centre of Excellence for Seabuckthorn at Nimoo, Seabuckthorn plantation at COE Nimoo, promotion of Karkichoo apple varieties grafted on clonal rootstock at MOCN-Nimoo.
The DC Leh emphasized that all proposals will be reviewed by the committee, and post-approval, the implementation should begin promptly. He also directed the Chief Horticulture Officer to submit all relevant data and detailed reports, which he will review and further discuss with other committee members. He concluded by stating that the sanctioning of subsidies and funding support will be aligned with government guidelines and priorities under the MIDH framework.
