DC Sham Reviews Preparedness of Hanu and Dah Hydro Electric Projects for Commissioning and Inauguration.
Khaltse, August 18, 2026: Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), on August 17, 2026, visited the 9 MW Hanu and Dah Hydro Electric Projects to review the preparedness of both projects for their scheduled commissioning and inauguration.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Executive Engineer, PDC/Hydraulic Division Sham, Phurbu Sandup; Naib Tehsildar Headquarter District Sham, Attaullah Khan along with field staff; representatives of the Project Management Consultant (PMC), M/s WAPCOS, including Project Engineers; and representatives of the EPC Contractor, M/s P&R Infra Projects, including the Project Manager and project staff.
During her visit to the Hanu Hydro Electric Project, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the Power House, Switchyard and Head Works. She was briefed on the present status of the project and its generation capability.
It was informed that the project is presently generating approximately 7 MW and can achieve its full generation potential once the flow of water in the nallah is properly diverted into the tunnel at the Head Works.
The Deputy Commissioner took serious note of the accumulation of debris at the Head Works and directed the concerned authorities to ensure its immediate removal and proper channelisation of the nallah so that the available water is fully diverted into the water conductor system and the project operates at its optimum capacity. The department informed that tenders have already been floated for removal of the debris and that the work is expected to commence in the coming week.
During the inspection of the Switchyard, the Deputy Commissioner observed that the area was not adequately fenced, posing a potential safety hazard and risk of unauthorised access. She directed that the Switchyard be properly fenced on priority to ensure the safety of personnel and the public.
During the visit to the Dah Hydro Electric Project, the Deputy Commissioner expressed her dissatisfaction over the non-generation of power from the project, particularly in view of its scheduled commissioning and inauguration.
The EPC Contractor, M/s P&R Infra Projects, was directed to take up all pending works on a war-footing basis and ensure completion and commissioning of the project at the earliest. The EPC Contractor committed to completing and commissioning the project in all respects within one week.
The EPC Contractor was further directed to immediately complete the pending painting, finishing and other beautification works at the Head Works. The department was instructed to ensure complete removal of debris from the Head Works before the project is put into operation/charged and to undertake necessary face-lifting and site-improvement works to ensure that the project is fully ready for commissioning and inauguration.
The Executive Engineer, PDC/Hydraulic Division, was specifically directed to maintain strict and continuous supervision of the Dah Hydro Electric Project and closely monitor the progress of all pending works. He was instructed to ensure timely completion of the project in view of the commissioning and inauguration schedule fixed by the higher authorities.
During the site inspection, the Deputy Commissioner issued directions to the concerned departments to complete all pending works at the earliest, maintain cleanliness in the Power House and surrounding areas, and ensure that both projects remain fully ready for commissioning and inauguration as per the schedule fixed by the higher authorities.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that all concerned agencies must work in close coordination and ensure timely completion of the remaining works, with due priority to safety, quality and operational readiness of the projects.
