Leh, March 11, 2025: A delegation comprising members of Ice Hockey Federation of India, led by its President, former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the Lt Governor’s Secretariat to express their heartfelt gratitude for his unwavering support in promoting ice hockey in the region.
The delegation, which included members of the Ice Hockey Federation of India and Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh along with ice hockey players from Ladakh, expressed gratitude to the HLG for his efforts in supporting the Indian ice hockey team and commended his role in enabling the team’s participation in the Asian Winter Games held in Harbin, China.
During the meeting, HLG emphasised the importance of the early recognition and affiliation of the Ice Hockey Federation of India. He reiterated his commitment to promoting sports in Ladakh and instructed the Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, to prioritise initiatives aimed at promoting sports in the region, including the registration of Ice Hockey Federation of India with the concerned Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI. The HLG highlighted the benefits that such efforts would bring to the youth of Ladakh, encouraging their active involvement in sports and athletic pursuits.
The delegation expressed their appreciation for the HLG’s leadership and continued support, which has significantly contributed to raising the profile of ice hockey and sports in Ladakh along with declaring ice hockey as the state game of UT Ladakh.
Chief Secretary UT Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS and Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, were present during the meeting.
