    Delegations from Skyu-Markha, Darchik-Garkone call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).

    Leh, Mar 14, 2024: A delegation from Skyu-Markha led by its Councillor, Shri Sonam Nurboo, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary, Planning, Shri L Franklin, IAS; Secretary to the HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Shri Brij Mohan Sharma, IFA and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
    Shri Nurboo apprised the HLG of the issues faced by the people of Chilling Sumdha, Skyu Markha and Rumbak Rumchung as their villages fall under Hemis National Park, particularly developmental activities. He requested the HLG’s intervention for the fixation and delimitation of the actual boundary of Hemis National Park. He also requested for funds for flood protection measures due to frequent occurrences of floods in Skyu-Markha and Rumbak Rumchung and the need for adequate funds for the construction of the Skyu-Kaya and Markha-Hankar roads.
    The HLG informed the Councillor and other delegates about the exercise of rationalisation of boundaries of Chanthang and Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuaries along with Hemis National Park and also the matter taken up by him with the Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change regarding the rationalisation/fixation of boundaries of wildlife sanctuaries and the Hemis National Park. He stated that he would make best efforts to work for the benefit of the people residing in these wildlife sanctuaries and Hemis National Park either by fixing the boundaries or maintaining the status quo of the boundaries. He also stated about the instructions passed by him to remove certain clauses so that people residing in the wildlife-protected areas can avail loans from banks for establishing commercial establishments such as hotels and guest houses.
    The HLG asked Shri Franklin to expedite the planning and funding process for the construction of the Skyu-Kaya and Markha-Hankar roads. He informed Shri Nurboo that funding for flood protection measures could be done through the Hill Councils.
    A delegation from Darchik-Garkhone village led by Shri Rigzin Gurmet called on the HLG at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
    Advisor to HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS and Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS were present in the meeting.
    Shri Gurmet raised several demands, viz. inclusion of Aryan valley villages in single administration, grant of special funds to develop Aryan valley and reservation of nominated councillor for minorities of Garkhone-Darchik village.
    The HLG assured the development of Aryan Valley as a model village and asked Shri Gurmet to submit a proposal for the special development of Aryan Valley through LAHDC Kargil. He stated that the provision of nominated councillor for minorities would be as per the LAHDC Act.
