Department of Horticulture, Leh Conducts Farmers’ Training Programme at Dhomkhar and Lamayuru.
The Department of Horticulture, Leh organized Farmers’ Training Programmes on Pruning and Pest Management of Orchards at Dhomkhar and Lamayuru villages of Khaltse zone with the objective of strengthening farmers’ knowledge on scientific orchard management practices.
The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local farming community, with around 160 villagers attending the training at the two locations. The sessions focused on proper pruning techniques, pest and disease management, and orchard sanitation to improve the health and productivity of fruit trees.
The programme was attended by Smt. Kunzang Wangmo, Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh, along with Incharge Horticulture Development Officer, Khaltse, Smt. Kunzes Angmo. During the training, the officers interacted with the farmers and emphasized the importance of adopting scientific horticulture practices for improved yield and sustainable orchard development. Practical demonstration on pruning techniques was also conducted in the field, where farmers were shown the correct methods of pruning fruit trees and managing orchard pests.
The officers also briefed the participants about various horticulture schemes being implemented by the department and encouraged farmers to avail the benefits of these schemes for the development and improvement of their orchards.
The farmers appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Horticulture and actively participated in the discussions and demonstrations. The department reiterated its commitment to continue organizing such capacity-building programmes to strengthen the horticulture sector and support farmers’ livelihoods in the region.
