Department of Information and Public Relations Leh organises National Press Day.
Leh, November 16, 2024: Department of Information and Public Relations, Leh organised celebration of National Press Day with the theme ‘Changing Nature of Press’ at Bharath Hotel Leh. The day was celebrated across the country to honour the essential role of responsible press in society. The day long event saw participation of all media fraternity of Leh. Guest present were Head of RNU AIR/ Doordarshan Leh Khursheed Yousuf, President Press Club Morup Stanzin, Vice President Press Club Nissar Hussain and members and other media persons from Leh district. Assistant Director, Information Murtaza Ali mentioned that on this Press Day, all the journalists need to take a pledge to maintain the ethics of journalism. He also added that media person have a great responsibility to influence general public with their content. During the event, media people also engaged in discussions where they shared their problems, challenges and other key issues related to media. The Assistant Director assured all the media person that he will take up the matters to the higher authority and will try to resolve all the issues at the soonest. National Press Day is observed on November 16 every year to honour free and responsible press in the democratic society of India. On this day the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that the press maintains high standards and is not constrained by any influence or threats. It also commemorates the day when the Press Council of India started functioning.
