Deputy Commissioner Sham Chairs Review Meeting on Drug Menace and Preventive Measures

The Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), today chaired a review meeting on Drug Menace and Preventive Measures in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Khaltsi.
The meeting reviewed the action taken on the decisions made during the previous meeting held on 12 June 2026 and discussed the current status of measures being implemented to prevent drug abuse and strengthen awareness across Sham District.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among all concerned departments, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, healthcare authorities, and public representatives to effectively combat the menace of drug abuse. She stressed the importance of community participation, regular awareness campaigns, early identification of vulnerable groups, and strict enforcement of the law to prevent substance abuse, particularly among the youth.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to intensify awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and villages, with the objective of making every village in Sham District drug-free through sustained community participation and coordinated action. She further instructed all concerned departments to submit Action Taken Reports (ATRs) on the implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting and to work in close coordination to strengthen preventive as well as rehabilitative measures across the district.
The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sham, Shri Ajaz Malik; Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Khaltsi, Shri Mohd. Sharif; Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Liker, Shri Gurmet Namgail;Naib Tehsildar Shri. Attahullah, Block Development Officers; Dr. Zakir Hussain; Dr. Spalchen Gonbo, other concerned officials; representative Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Sham; President, Merchant Association, Khaltsi; and members of the Drug Abuse Prevention Unit.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to work together towards achieving the goal of a drug-free Sham District, ensuring that every village remains free from the menace of drugs through continuous awareness, effective enforcement, and active community participation.
