Department of Sociology Govt. Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organized “Guest Lecture” on theme Students and the sites of learning in Higher Education.

EJM College Leh, 18 September 2025: Department of Sociology Govt. Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organized “Guest Lecture” on theme Students and the sites of learning in Higher Education: Critical Reflections on India’s Education Policy. Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Babu from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Chaudhary from Dr. Ambedkar Chair at Symbiosis International University, Pune were invited as the guest speakers. The speakers critically stressed on the imperativeness of generating critical thinking among the young learners within and outside the classroom settings. While highlighting the Ambedkar’s values of education and emerging modern social needs of the diverse society, both the speakers emphasized that “goal of education should not only be encapsulated to transmit knowledge but to reduce the social inequalities by devising criticality”. Earlier Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal Govt. Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh and program’s patron while formally welcoming the guest speakers acknowledged the importance of building academic collaborations across cultural settings and academic spaces and the given theme contributes towards achieving the larger goal of higher learning. The programme was convened by the Dr. Samina Rehman Head Department of Sociology and coordinated by Dr. Tsering Norphel Department of Sociology. Faculties and students of social sciences attended the progamme and enthusiastically participated during the session.
