DG, Bureau of Energy Efficiency inaugurates Pilot Heat Pump Project in Leh.
Leh, July 14, 2026: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, in collaboration with the Power Development Department (LPDD), UT Ladakh, and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), today inaugurated the Pilot Heat Pump Project in Leh. The initiative has been launched under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), to promote energy-efficient and sustainable heating solutions in the Union Territory.
The project was inaugurated by Shri Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), in the presence of Engineers of LPDD, senior officials from BEE, EESL, LPDD and other stakeholders.
The Pilot Heat Pump Project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of advanced heat pump technology in Ladakh’s extreme climatic conditions.
The project features both water-based and air-based heat pump systems, which offer an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional heating methods.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Krushna Chandra Panigrahy highlighted the importance of adopting clean energy technologies to improve energy efficiency while reducing carbon emissions. He noted that the project aligns with the Government of India’s commitment towards sustainable development. He stated that the pilot project marks an important step towards promoting clean energy solutions in Ladakh. He expressed confidence that the initiative would help reduce energy consumption, lower heating costs and encourage wider adoption of efficient heating technologies across the region.
The project has been funded by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and implemented with technical support from EESL in coordination with the Power Development Department, UT Ladakh.
The Pilot Heat Pump Project is expected to serve as a model for future deployment of energy-efficient heating systems in cold climatic regions, contributing to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for Ladakh.
