DG NCC, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
Leh, 02 Oct 2023: Director General, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, AVSM, VSM called on Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Niwas.
DG NCC, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh apprised the HLG about the NCC’s initiative in the Ladakh region and informed that about 40% of the enrolled NCC students in Ladakh are girls. He informed that two battalions of NCC would be established in the two districts of the region. He said that the NCC training center will be set up in Phyang in Leh and another in Kargil district. He further informed that a student from Leh represented India in a recent Mountaineering Expedition in Russia. The DG NCC expressed the NCC’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and providing facilities in Ladakh. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh requested HLG to provide heating facilities for a residential school located in Nyoma and appointment of permanent staff at NCC center. He also informed that 10% of NCC students had been selected in Agniveer.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) commended the NCC for their outstanding services in Ladakh. He urged the DG, NCC for expansion of NCC program in Ladakh to empower local youth. The HLG suggested the DG, NCC to identify suitable land for the NCC training center in the Kargil district. He also directed Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS to create the necessary posts at the NCC center.
Group Commander, NCC Group Srinagar, Brigadier KS Kalsi; Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS and Commanding Officer, 1 Ladakh Battalion, NCC Leh, Lieutenant Colonel HS Dhanoa were present in the meeting.
