DIET Leh Concludes Three-Day Cascading Programme on Science and Mathematics in Collaboration with IISER Pune.
The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, successfully concluded a three-day cascading programme for Science and Mathematics teachers of Leh, Kharu and Durbuk Zones. The programme was conducted from 27th to 29th July 2026 at DIET Leh.
As part of the programme, IISER Pune distributed Mini Science Labs to all participating teachers with the objective of promoting scientific temper among students and enhancing the teaching-learning process of Science and Mathematics at the middle school level through activity-based and experiential learning.
The valedictory session was graced by Shri S.D. Namgial, Principal, DIET Leh, who congratulated the participants on successfully completing the training. In his address, he emphasized that teachers have a significant responsibility in nurturing scientific curiosity among students. He urged the participants to make effective use of the Mini Science Labs to simplify scientific concepts, promote hands-on learning, and make Science and Mathematics classrooms more engaging and meaningful.
A distinctive feature of the cascading programme was the active involvement of indigenous resource persons from Leh district, who delivered sessions on various concepts in Science and Mathematics using innovative, low-cost, and locally relevant teaching methodologies. Their demonstrations highlighted practical classroom strategies aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and competency-based education.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the commitment of DIET Leh and IISER Pune to strengthening teachers’ professional capacities and improving the quality of Science and Mathematics education across the district.
