    DIPR Kargil celebrates National Press Day 2024 CEC, EC, DC, JD attend function, hail media’s role in shaping public opinion

    Kargil, Nov 16, 2024: Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Kargil today celebrated National Press Day-2024 at TFC Byamathang Kargil under theme “Changing Nature of the Press” reflecting the evolving dynamics of the media landscape.
    Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon was the chief guest; Executive Councilor, Information, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi was guest of honor; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse was special guest; Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho was special guest. Assistant Director, DIPR Kargil, Raza Ali Abidi; AIO DIPR Kargil, Anwar Ali Tsarpa; Head Assistants of Information Department Mohd Ali and Mohd Yousuf; President Press Club Kargil, Hussain Khaloo, Vice President Press Club Kargil, Ali Waziri; Members of the Press Club; Editor, Voice of Ladakh, Syed Hashim; Editor Kargil Samzod/DIPR Kargil, Mansoor Peer; Correspondent DD News Mansoor Ahmad; senior journalist Ghulam Nabi Zia, local journalists working for print, electronic media, reports and photographers of DIPR Kargil , officials and staff members of the department attended the event.
    On the occasion, the CEC congratulated the media fraternity on National Press Day, acknowledging their significant contributions to nation-building and shaping a better tomorrow.
    Dr. Akhoon highlighted the vital role of the media as a bridge between the Government and the public. He encouraged journalists to address public issues constructively and positively.
    Regarding the issues raised by President, Press Club of Kargil regarding welfare schemes for media persons, the CEC assured that LAHDC, Kargil is committed to resolve the issues within its jurisdiction in accordance with established regulations. He informed that the land has been allotted for the construction of Press Club building in Kargil.
    The CEC spoke about developmental initiatives and welfare schemes taken by the council, expressing hope that the media would highlight these efforts to inform and benefit the public. Dr Akhoon urged the media fraternity to fulfil their fundamental duties while enjoying their fundamental rights, promoting responsible citizenship.
    Speaking at the event, Executive Councilor, Information, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi appreciated DIPR Kargil for organizing the event and emphasized that such events foster interaction with media persons.
    While highlighting the importance of the press, EC Tashi stated that media is the part and parcel of administration, essential for transparency and effective governance. He acknowledged the significant role of media from historical times to the present day.
    While speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse also congratulated all the media persons and praised their role in highlighting development works and other issues of the District . He announced that the district administration will bear annual subscriptions for Press Club members through social security schemes, ensuring support for welfare of media persons.
    On the occasion, Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho appreciated the role of media in highlighting public issues in the district.
    Kacho said the local media organizations of Ladakh should highlight the developmental works done by UT Administration Ladakh and LAHDC-Kargil in order to make people aware about the growth, development and progress.
    The Joint Director appreciated the role of DIPR-Kargil for playing a pivotal role in covering different aspects of governance in the District with commitment and dedication.
    “There is a great paradigm shift in the work progress of DIPR Kargil with the help of its dedicated employees and officials. The department is doing its best to take it to new heights,” he said.
    Kacho also praised the local media for covering public issues despite limited resources, acknowledging their critical role in raising awareness and serving the community in challenging conditions.
    He highlighted various initiatives of the Information Department, including workshops aimed at up-skilling media persons to enhance their professional capabilities and support their contributions to the community.
    President, Press Club of Kargil, Hussain Khaloo highlighted the role of media in covering the public issues in the entire Ladakh region and in Kargil District. He raised key issues, including the construction of Press Club in Kargil and welfare schemes for media persons, emphasizing support for their development.
    The other media persons also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the role of media and the issues faced by media persons in Kargil district.
    On the occasion, a panel discussion was also held in which Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho; Mohd Hussain; Ali Wazeri; Mansoor Peer and Muhammad Ishaq participated as panellists and it was moderated by AIO Anwar Ali Tsarpa.
    They discussed several issues and challenges being faced by the media persons of Ladakh in general and Kargil in particular. They also discussed the current scenario of print, electronic media, digital media, fake news, misinformation, disinformation etc.
    The media persons working with different media organizations in the District and staff of DIPR-Kargil were also felicitated by the dignitaries for their work.
    Earlier, Assistant Director, DIPR Kargil, Raza Ali Abidi presented the welcome address and highlighted the importance of National Press Day. He also highlighted the role of media in serving the interest of the general public in the country.
    AIO, DIPR-Kargil, Anwar Ali Tsarpa conducted the proceedings and presented the vote of thanks.
    The National Press Day is observed on November 16 every year across the country to commemorate the formal beginning of operations of the Press Council of India, a statutory and quasi-judicial establishment.
