Director FCS&CA took Review meeting of Stock Position and Availability of Essential Commodities in Ladakh.
Kargil, September 11,2025: Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), UT of Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, today chaired a meeting at the Conference Hall, LAHDC Secretariat Kargil, to review the stock position and availability of essential commodities across the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by AD FCS&CA Kargil, Samina Khatoon; AD FCS&CA Leh, Ruth Mary; Accounts Officer FCS&CA,
Mohd Hussain; Chief Inspector, Kargil Anayatullah Rahi; President Merchant Association Kargil; representatives of the Merchant Association Leh (via virtual mode); officials from Indian Oil, HPCL, India Gas; and other stakeholders of both the districts.
During the meeting, the AD FCS&CA Kargil and Leh informed that there is sufficient stocking of rice and wheat in both the districts. The Director FCS&CA was informed that there is urgent need of stocking of IOCL Gas cylinders in Kargil. The Director directed the concerned agency to immediately restock the supply so that public would not get suffered and he also assured that he will take up the matter with concerned Area Manager.
The President of the Merchant Association Kargil, highlighted that the shortage of essential commodities like eggs and chicken was primarily due to floods in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, which disrupted supplies and led to shortage. However, they informed that the situation has now stabilized with regular supply of fresh chicken in the market and availability in shops.
The Director directed AD Food Kargil to take up the matter with District Administration Kargil to fix the rate of eggs.
The President of Merchant Association and Fruit Association further raised concerns over unregulated street selling of food items, particularly from tata mobile vans at various points, which poses challenges to shopkeepers.
Director FCS&CA Tahir Hussain Zubdavi instructed both Assistant Directors of Leh and Kargil to ensure the availability of all essential commodities at the sub-division level. He also reviewed the status of food grains and stock positions in both districts.
Addressing fuel and supply issues, the Director instructed representatives of Indian Oil and HPCL to ensure uninterrupted availability of petrol and diesel at every fuel station across Ladakh, operating 24×7, in line with ministry guidelines.
He further directed both Assistant Directors to conduct regular inspections in markets to curb hoarding, regulate prices, and ensure strict adherence to government guidelines.
Assuring the stakeholders, Zubdavi said that the issue of unregulated selling of food items will be taken up with the concerned authorities and concrete measures will be initiated to resolve the matter.
