    Leh, Ladakh:
The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Leh, Mission Shakti, in collaboration with the Gya Meru Youth Association, successfully concluded a 10-day Ice Hockey Training Program. The programme was organized for girls belonging to the Gya–Meru belt of Leh district and witnessed the active participation of 30 girls.
The primary objective of the training programme was to promote gender equality, physical fitness, leadership, and self-confidence among adolescent girls and young women while encouraging their participation in winter sports, particularly ice hockey, which is a popular and culturally significant sport in the Ladakh region.
The initiative aligns with the broader goals of Mission Shakti to create opportunities for women and girls by enhancing their skills, resilience, and overall well-being.
During the 10-day training period, the participants received structured and professional coaching from experienced ice hockey trainers. The sessions covered fundamental techniques such as skating, puck handling, passing, shooting, defensive and offensive strategies, along with an understanding of the rules of the game and safety measures. Special emphasis was placed on teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship to ensure the holistic development of the participants.
The training programme also provided a safe and encouraging platform for girls from remote areas to explore their potential in sports, build confidence, and develop leadership qualities. Such exposure is expected to inspire continued participation of girls in sports activities and contribute to the identification and nurturing of future talent at the grassroots level.
The Gya Meru Youth Association played a crucial role in community mobilization, logistical support, and smooth execution of the programme, ensuring maximum participation and effective implementation.
The successful completion of the training programme marks another step towards promoting inclusive development, women empowerment, and equal opportunities for girls in the region. The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Leh, reaffirmed its resolve to continue organizing such initiatives in collaboration with local organizations for the overall development of women and girls in Ladakh.
