District Hub for Empowerment of Women Leh, Mission Shakti,Conducts Sensitisation Programme for Anganwadi Workers on Child Marriage and Women-Centric Support Services.
12 August 2026: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), leh organised a one-day sensitisation and capacity-building programme for Anganwadi Workers of Nubra District on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, its consequences, legal provisions, and available support mechanisms for women and children.
The programme was organised with the objective of strengthening the knowledge and capacity of frontline workers, who play a crucial role in identifying vulnerable children and women, preventing child marriage, creating awareness at the community level, and facilitating access to government services. Reprentatives from Child Help Line also sensitised the workers about various child-related support services, including Child Helpline (CHL) and Women Helpline (WHL). The role of these helplines in providing immediate assistance, guidance, referral and support to women and children in distress was explained. The importance of prompt reporting and connecting vulnerable persons with appropriate authorities and services was also emphasised.
The programme also included a detailed orientation on the One Stop Centre (OSC) and the support available to women affected by violence or those requiring assistance. The Anganwadi Workers were informed about the services provided through the OSC, including support, counselling, referral and assistance in accessing appropriate institutional and legal mechanisms.
The programme highlighted the importance of convergence and coordination among frontline workers, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Child Development Project authorities, law-enforcement agencies and other concerned departments for effective prevention of child marriage and timely assistance to women and children in need.
The session concluded with an emphasis on the significant role of Anganwadi Workers as community-level change agents. They were encouraged to actively spread awareness among families and communities, remain vigilant about cases of child marriage and violence, and ensure that vulnerable women and children are linked with appropriate support services.
