DLSA Leh Observes World HIV/AIDS Day with Awareness Programme.
Leh, December 1, 2025: In line with the plan of action and the calendar of activities, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Leh today organised an awareness programme at the District Court Complex, Leh, to mark World HIV/AIDS Day.
The programme was attended by Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal (Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel), court staff, and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs).
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal highlighted that World HIV/AIDS Day provides an important opportunity for public and private stakeholders to raise awareness about the current status of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and to encourage progress in its prevention, treatment, and care globally.
He also spoke about the HIV and AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act, 2017, which aims to prevent and control the spread of HIV and AIDS while safeguarding the legal and human rights of individuals infected with or affected by the disease. He emphasised that the Act focuses on eliminating stigma and discrimination and on creating an enabling environment to enhance access to essential services.
The Act also provides for a strong grievance redressal mechanism through an Ombudsman at the State level and a Complaints Officer at the establishment level, ensuring timely redressal and protection of rights.
The awareness programme concluded with a call to continue collective efforts to support prevention, promote rights, and enhance access to care for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
