DMRRR Department Issues Public Advisory in View of Forecast Heavy Rainfall Across Ladakh.
Leh, July 20, 2026: The Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) Department, Union Territory of Ladakh, has issued a public advisory urging residents, commuters, tourists and all concerned to remain alert following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall over the region.
The advisory cautions that the anticipated weather conditions may lead to flash floods, landslides and disruption of essential services. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to stay away from nallahs, riverbanks, flood-prone areas and landslide-prone slopes. The public has also been urged not to cross swollen streams, damaged roads or unstable bridges.
Tourists and visitors have been advised to postpone travel plans to vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve. Residents are requested to follow official advisories issued by the District Administration, Police and other concerned departments, and to keep emergency supplies such as drinking water, torches, medicines, mobile charging facilities and important documents readily available.
The advisory further emphasizes that people should immediately evacuate if instructed by local authorities and ensure that children, elderly persons and other vulnerable family members remain in safe locations. Any incidents of flooding, landslides, road blockages or other emergencies should be reported promptly to the concerned control room or local administration.
The Administration has directed all concerned departments, field formations and emergency response teams to remain on high alert and ensure coordinated preparedness, including early warning dissemination, evacuation support, relief operations and protection of critical infrastructure.
