Dy Chairman-led delegation calls on Hon’ble Lt. Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) to discuss issues related to irrigation canals, nullahs.

Leh, July 21, 2023: A delegation from Nubra led by Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Shri Tsering Angchuk called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Shri Angchuk briefed the HLG about the Chesnon Irrigation Canal at Diskit Nubra which was sanctioned in 2008 under a government scheme but the scheme was later discontinued in 2013. He informed that the matter was taken up with the erstwhile government of the state of Jammu and Kashmir following which the project was included in languishing works. He also informed that even after the passage of many years, the project has still not been completed.
Shri Angchuk requested for HLG’s intervention in the early completion of the work. He also requested for sanctioning solar-lift irrigation projects till the said project is completed for the benefit of the people from Nubra sub-division. He further requested to give approval for the construction/renovation of two nullahs in Diskit which has been included in the projects under Special Development Package (SDP).
Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu informed the HLG that the department has already prepared a master plan for 32 major irrigation canals and DPRs have already been submitted to the Planning Department.
There was also discussion on the maximum utilisation of water from the Indus River as per the Indus Waters Treaty.
The HLG directed the concerned officers to expedite the process of paper works of all major irrigation canals in Ladakh after carefully and transparently prioritising their.
