EC Agriculture, Aga Syed Mujtaba Launches Distribution of 10 Lakh Vegetable Seedlings in Kargil.
Kargil, May 18, 2026: The Executive Councillor (EC) for Agriculture, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Mujtaba, today inaugurated the distribution of vegetable seedlings for the 2026–27 cropping season at SM Farm, Kurbathang. During the event, he officially launched the department’s drive to supply 10 lakh vegetable seedlings.
The supply comprises around 25 different vegetable crops, including both hybrid and open-pollinated varieties, sourced from SM Farm Kurbathang, Floriculture Garden Baroo, and the Vegetable Demonstration Farms in Pashkum and Saliskot.
The expansion of organic vegetable cultivation across Kargil aims to reduce dependence on external markets, promote sustainable farming, ensure the production of chemical-free, healthy vegetables, and create income-generating opportunities for local farmers.
Following an inspection of the newly established vegetable seedling plots, the EC stressed the need to further increase the net sown area for vegetable cash crop nurseries. The objective is to establish S M Farm Kurbathang as a healthy seedling distribution hub and a hands-on demonstration center for disseminating the latest agricultural technologies, enabling farmers to adopt new, scientific methods early to secure better returns and higher incomes.
During his inspection of the newly developed Floriculture Garden, high-tech greenhouses, and sprinkler irrigation plots, the EC directed the Agriculture Department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a lift irrigation system from the Suru River to SM Farm, Kurbathang. This system is intended to enhance the farm’s productivity and benefit all farmers in the region, marking a step toward self-reliance and climate-resilient vegetable production in Kargil.
