Kargil, June 17, 2025 – The Wipro Earthian Regional Award Ceremony was celebrated at the Auditorium Hall in Kargil graced by Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Mr. Avinash from Wipro’s Education Wing, and Mr. Ashish, Wipro’s Managing Member. The guests were warmly welcomed with traditional Khataqs.
While speaking on the occasion, Executive Councillor, Kacho Mohd Feroz on behalf of the Education Department praised the visionary work of leaders like Azim Premji and Ratan Tata, who aim to uplift not only Ladakh but India as a whole. He stressed the importance of hard work, revenue generation, and social welfare, including women empowerment, education, healthcare, and environment conservation. He urged students to set high goals like Azim Premji and work for the upliftment of weaker sections of society.
He also raised concerns about the effects of climate change in Ladakh, such as rapid glacier melting, changing weather patterns, and reduced snowfall, all of which pose serious threats to this sensitive region. He thanked the Wipro team for organizing the event and assured them of continued support for such initiatives in Ladakh.
The programme began with a welcome speech by Mrs. Preeti who introduced Wipro Foundation and Azim Premji University, highlighting their commitment to social upliftment, both financially and through welfare initiatives that benefit society at large.
Following this, Mr. Ashish addressed the audience, congratulating the participants. He explained the meaning of the term Earthian, which is derived from “Earth” and represents sustainability. He emphasized the importance of young minds being aware of global environmental changes and contributing towards creating pollution-free surroundings. He mentioned that the programme provides a platform for students from across India to meet, interact, and discuss such critical issues.
Mr. Avinash shared that Wipro Earthian has been functional since 2010 and was founded by Azim Premji. He explained Wipro’s vision of empowering individuals by providing them with rights, responsibilities, and opportunities in the industrial, educational, and social sectors. Currently, Wipro operates globally with 65 offices in various countries. Azim Premji’s mission is to donate his wealth for social causes, focusing especially on healthcare, education, and the environment. Mr. Avinash reminded everyone that Earth is our only home, and we all share the responsibility to protect it through sustainable actions. He congratulated the award-winning schools and encouraged students to continue their learning and innovation to help save the planet.
In the next session, a presentation about Azim Premji University was held, showcasing its eco-friendly infrastructure. The university promotes a “Go Green” environment with features like no air-conditioners in classrooms to maintain a bioclimatic and productive atmosphere. The university offers various opportunities for students aspiring to build their careers while contributing to environmental sustainability.
The entire programme was highly fruitful, leaving a strong message that perfectly echoes Tishani Doshi’s quote: “Take care of small things and big things will fall into place.”
