Kargil, September 28, 2024: Executive Councilor, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj/ FCS&CA/Forest & Wild Life, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi on Saturday attended one-day stakeholders’ meet cum workshop of progressive farmers on medicinal plants conducted at Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.
The workshop was organized by Regional Cum Facilitation Centre (RCFC), Northern Region II, National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, in collaboration with School of Agri. & Tech. Kargil Campus, UoL & KVK Kargil-1.
While addressing the event, the Executive Councilor applauded the organizers for conducting the workshop and said the event would raise awareness among farmers.
EC Tashi asserted that LAHDC, Kargil is committed to work for the welfare of farmers adding that agriculture provides the holistic development of the society.
He said all the stakeholders need to work in close coordination. He said that attending such workshops help the farmers to stay informed about agricultural advancements.
EC Tashi also highlighted the significance of agricultural scientists and experts, urging their active involvement. Additionally, he highlighted the medicinal value of plants in the region, emphasizing their potential for economic and health benefits. He said LAHDC, Kargil is committed to prioritize agriculture and allied sectors.
While addressing the occasion, Regional Director Regional Cum Facilitation Centre, Northern Region II, Dr. Sheikh Bilal Ahmad delivered a power point presentation on “Transition of Medicinal Plants: Collection, Conservation, Cultivation and Entrepreneurship Development.”
He highlighted the medicinal value of plants and scope of medicinal utilization in the region. Dr Ahmed also talked about the collection of medicinal plants for diverse uses from their natural ecosystem. He encouraged the farmers for the promotion of cultivation of medicinal plants and conservative.
The Regional Director also highlighted why the conservation of medicinal plants is necessary. He also highlighted the cultivation opportunities for Ladakh. The entrepreneurship development in medicinal plants was also highlighted.
During the event, other speakers also spoke about the medicinal value of plants in the region. A question and answer session was also held in which various queries were raised by farmers and students. The experts answered all their queries.
During the workshop, an interactive session was also held with farmers and students addressing their queries and concerns. In the end, scientist KVK Kargil-1 Dr. Mansoor Hussain presented the vote of thanks.
Chief Scientist, School of Agri. & Tech., Kargil Campus, UoL & KVK Kargil-1, Dr Faizan Ahmed, Scientist Dr Nasreen Kacho, Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil, Mohd Zaffar, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ashiq Hussain, officers from line departments, farmers and students were also present during the workshop.
