EJM College Hosts Documentary Screening of Student Films Shot in Yangthang.
LEH, MARCH 30: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) at Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, in collaboration with the Charkha Development Communication Network, successfully hosted a documentary screening session today. The event celebrated the creative efforts of MCJ students and marked a significant institutional milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the college and the Charkha Network.
The event formally commenced following the arrival of the College Principal Professor Stanzin Yangdol. Mr. Tashi Morup, Director of the Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The gathering was made even more special by the presence of Yangthang Village residents; having generously hosted the students and served as the subjects of the documentaries, they joined the college faculty as esteemed guests for the screening
The session was officially opened by the Head of the Department MCJ, AP Hajira Bano. In the welcome address, the HOD introduced the department’s vision and highlighted the vital role of the Charkha Development Communication Network in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and field-based journalism. The HOD extended a warm welcome to the Charkha team, led by CEO Ms. Chetna Verma, along with team members Mr. Manas Rastogi, Ms. Uzma, and Ms. Ananya.
The audience was then treated to a series of short documentary films produced by MCJ students across all three semesters. These films were the culmination of an intensive rural filmmaking workshop held in Yangthang village. During the workshop, students received hands-on training in visual storytelling, scriptwriting, and camera operations, with invaluable technical guidance provided by Mr. Manas Rastogi. The final documentaries beautifully captured the socio-cultural essence and grassroots narratives of the village.
Following the screening, an interactive session was held where the student filmmakers took the stage to share their on-ground experiences. They spoke enthusiastically about the practical challenges of documentary production and the profound lessons learned while interacting closely with the Yangthang community.
As a mark of respect and gratitude for their mentorship, CEO Chetna Verma, Mr.Manas Rastogi, Miss Uzma, and Miss Ananya were felicitated with traditional Khatas by the college administration.
Solidifying this fruitful partnership, an MoU was officially signed between EJM College and the Charkha Development Communication Network in the presence of the faculty members. This agreement aims to foster future collaborative training programs and field-based learning opportunities for the media students of Ladakh.
The highly successful event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the Assistant Professor Dr. Qazi Sheeraz Arif of the MCJ Department, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Guest of Honour, the Charkha team, the welcoming people of Yangthang village, the college administration, and the faculty for making the initiative a resounding success.
