Empowering Farmers at Chushul: 12th Day of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan.

The 12th day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan was successfully held at Chushul village with a strong presence of officials from various departments, led by KVK Nyoma along with representatives from Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Sheep Husbandry departments. During the session, multiple schemes and interventions beneficial to the farmers were discussed. An engaging farmer interaction session highlighted critical local issues, including the growing menace of stray dogs attacking calves, for which farmers sought compensation-currently limited to wildlife-related attacks. They also requested coral fencing to protect livestock from such threats. Farmers expressed the need for quality vegetable seeds suitable for greenhouse cultivation and raised concerns over persistent weed problems in field crops like wild oats, locally known as Kasam. They recalled past crop damage caused by harsh climatic conditions and appealed for future compensation mechanisms. Furthermore, they sought complete fencing around the winter pastureland at Rala Tingru to prevent livestock disturbances. A pressing concern was the transfer of a good schoolteacher in May 2024, with no replacement provided till date. Farmers also demanded the provision of need-based farm implements. Environmental concerns were voiced, particularly the declining biodiversity, with species like sparrows and eagles no longer seen over the past 15 years. The increasing dog population prompted farmers to request animal birth control measures. Informational leaflets in the Bhoti language on vegetable drying techniques for harsh winters were distributed, along with brochures on Soil Health Cards, organic farming, natural farming, and horticultural schemes. A total of 86 farmers participated in the event. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Tashi from KVK Nyoma, acknowledging the contributions of Goba members, all participating farmers, and the ex-sarpanch for ensuring the success of the event.
