    Kargil, August 13, 2026: Executive Councillor for PDD LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, today convened a review meeting with officers and Engineers of the Power Development Department (PDD), Power Development Corporation, PGICL, REC PDICL, PEW and other concerned executing agencies to take stock of ongoing power projects, transmission and distribution works, cabling status and other related developments in Kargil, Drass and Zanskar District .
    The meeting was convened following the recent allocation of the departments of Rural Development, PRI, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Power Development Department and Zanskar Development Authority to the Executive Councillor Er Punchok Tashi.
    The meeting was attended by the concerned Executive Engineers and officers of the Electric Distribution Division (EDD), Sub-Transmission Division (STD), Electric Project Division (EPD), Project Wing (EEP), Civil Construction Divisions-I and II, Power Grid Kargil, and RECPDCL Kargil, besides the Incharge Media Cell, LAHDC Kargil.
    The Executive Councillor reviewed the status of major ongoing and completed power projects. The officers briefed the meeting that the 3×1.25 MW Iqbal Micro Hydel Project in Kargil is presently under the RMU stage, with machinery expected to be supplied by November 2026. Erection work is scheduled to commence in April 2027, with completion targeted for August 2027. The 3×420 KW Sanjak MHP in Kargil has been made functional.
    In Drass, the 3×250 KW Marpochoo MHP was reported functional, while in Zanskar, the 2×500 KW Haftal MHP was reviewed, with one unit already functional and the second unit expected to become functional shortly. The meeting was also informed about the progress of the 7 MW/1.5 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Zanskar, 220 KV line Drass to Zanskar, Substation, 33/11 KV substation in Zanskar,
    The meeting further reviewed the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Kargil. The officers apprised the Executive Councillor about the progress of rooftop solar installations in residential houses, government buildings and commercial establishments.
    Er. Punchok Tashi directed all concerned officers and executing agencies to expedite the ongoing works, particularly cabling, transmission, distribution and generation projects, and ensure their completion within the stipulated timelines without compromising on quality to achieve the target by September October 2026.
    He assured the officers that LAHDC Kargil would extend all possible support, including necessary logistical assistance and facilitation, wherever required for the smooth and timely execution of projects.
    The Executive Councillor said that local elected representatives have an important role in establishing effective linkages between the people and the government and ensuring that public concerns are appropriately conveyed to the concerned departments. He welcomed the concerned officers and departments for their cooperation and expressed confidence that collective efforts would help achieve the common goals of public welfare, transparency and accountability.
    Er. Punchok Tashi also stressed the importance of skilled manpower, inter-departmental coordination and effective monitoring for successful implementation of development projects. He urged all wings of the PDD to work in close coordination and cooperation with LAHDC Kargil and local representatives to address issues on the ground and accelerate development works.
    While concluding the meeting, the Executive Councillor thanked all the officers and representatives for their participation, detailed briefings and continued cooperation, and urged them to maintain the same spirit of coordination for the timely completion of ongoing power projects in Kargil, Drass and Zanskar.
