Field Visit of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to Pioneer Mushroom Cultivation (Oyster mushroom) Site at Yurgoo village Durbuk Sub-Divsion.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Durbuk, Shri Mohd. Ismail, visited the pioneer mushroom cultivation in Ladakh Green house of beneficiary Smt. Konchok Dolker at Yurgoo Village. During the visit, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Durbuk Zone, Ms. Chimet Lhamo, briefed the SDM on the complete mushroom production process, including substrate preparation, bag filling, spawning, crop management, and harvesting. She also explained that the beneficiary had received comprehensive training in organic mushroom cultivation from the Department of Agriculture and highlighted that mushrooms are generally ready for their first harvest within 25 days under proper management.
The AEO also demonstrated the use and benefits of mulching sheets for vegetable cultivation and escorted the SDM to inspect the area under mulching practices at the beneficiary’s farm. The beneficiary is successfully cultivating a variety of vegetables, including spinach, saag khanayari, Chinese cabbage, pak choi, tomato, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower, and muskmelon in a Domestic Ladakh Greenhouse provided under the Department of Agriculture.
During the interaction, the beneficiary shared her experience of adopting organic farming practices, emphasizing the use of natural methods for crop production and sustainable cultivation techniques.
The visit concluded with the inauguration of the first harvest of organically grown mushrooms by the Hon’ble SDM, Shri Mohd. Ismail, marking a significant milestone in promoting organic mushroom cultivation and climate-resilient agriculture in Durbuk Sub-Division. The SDM appreciated the efforts of the beneficiary and the Department of Agriculture in encouraging innovative and sustainable farming practices among local farmers.
