    Foundation Day of Uttarakhand celebrated with full fervour at Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.

    Leh, Nov 09, 2023: The Foundation Day of Uttarakhand was celebrated with full fervour at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat in the presence of the Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Executive Councillors from LAHDC Leh-Shri Ghulam Mehdi and Shri Stanzin Chosphel.
    Congratulating jawans of Uttarakhand on the Foundation Day of their state and also to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) for organising the event, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal stated that the celebration of Foundation Days of various states and UTs provides an opportunity for people of different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to interact and understand each other under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. He also thanked the HLG and the UT Administration for sending cultural troupes comprising students to various Raj Bhawans/Raj Niwas of all states and UTs on October 31 to celebrate UT Ladakh’s Foundation Day and to showcase the region’s rich culture and heritage.
    MP Ladakh also highlighted the religious significance of Uttarakhand, also known as Dev Bhoomi, and also praised jawans of the state for their sacrifices for national security.
    Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Shri Ghulam Mehdi, while congratulating citizens of Uttarakhand on their Foundation Day, also highlighted the attractions of Uttarakhand, including the Indian Military Academy and the patriotism of the jawans from Uttarakhand. He also stated that a lot of people from the Balti tribe reside in Uttarakhand.
    Prof Subrat Sharma, Dean of Research, University of Ladakh; Shri Deepak Rawat, Divisional Forest Officer, Leh and Shri Himanshu from ITBP Leh shared their thoughts on the occasion and thanked the UT Administration for organising the Foundation Day of Uttarakhand.
    Earlier, Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, welcomed the guests and apprised them of the formation of Uttarakhand as the 27th state of India on November 9, 2000 after being carved out from Uttar Pradesh. He also informed that the state was initially named Uttaranchal but its name was changed to Uttarakhand in 2007. He further informed that the objective of celebrating Foundation Day of states and UTs of India is to celebrate the cultural diversity of India through mutual interaction and reciprocity between people of different States and UTs.
    A recorded message shared by Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh from the Office of the Governor of Uttarakhand was also played on the occasion.
    Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Shri Mehboob Ali Khan; government officials and ITBP jawans and employees from Uttarakhand working in UT Ladakh were present at the event.
