    GDC Drass conducts student council elections.

    Kargil, August 08, 2023: Govt. Degree College, Drass today successfully conducted the elections of ‘Student Council’ for the session 2023-24. Earlier, election notification was issued by the Chief Election Commissioner/Principal, Dr Amjad Ali Abbasi on August 01 2023.
    The criteria laid down for aspiring students to contest the elections was 50 percent mandatory attendance in all the classes.
    The election process began with Dr Shah Niwaz, Returning Officer, briefing the candidates about the rules and regulations of election followed by speeches of the respective candidates.
    The officers appointed on election duty for the smooth conduct of election include; Assistant Professor Dr. Shah Niwaz as Returning Officer, Assistant Professor Kaniz Fatima as Presiding Officer, Assistant Professor Samina Rehman as Polling Officer 1 and Librarian Farida Banoo as Polling Officer 2 and Assistant Professor Stanzin Stamdin as Sector Magistrate.
    A total number of 99 students cast their votes for General Secretary, Vice President and President. Voting started at 11:00 a.m. and closed at 1:30 p.m. Later, ballot boxes were kept in the strong room under the supervision of Sector Magistrate.
    Counting of votes began at 02 o’clock by the Election Officers in presence of the agents and later result was declared in the college’s Multi-Purpose Hall.
    For President, Mehnaaz Anjum of 5th semester was declared as the winner, whereas, Shakila Mehraj of 3rd semester and Shabana Parveen of 1st Semester were declared as Vice President and General Secretary respectively.
    Principal GDC Drass appreciated the students for their active participation in the election process and lauded the efforts of the college’s SVEEP committee for the smooth conducting the election.
    He congratulated all the winning candidates and assured that the college administration will extend their full support to the students’ fraternity.
    The entire election process was smoothly conducted in free and fair manner by the college’s SVEEP Committee under the overall guidance of the Principal.
