GDC Kargil Sankoo Campus Celebrates National Wildlife Day 2025.
Kargil, September 4, 2025: The Department of Zoology, Government Degree College (GDC), Sankoo Campus, celebrated National Wildlife Day 2025 with great zeal and a sense of responsibility towards conserving Ladakh’s unique biodiversity. The event brought together faculty members, students, and enthusiasts to deliberate on the importance of safeguarding wildlife and preserving fragile ecosystems.
The program commenced with the welcome address and opening remarks delivered by Dr. Ahmad Ali, Head of the Department of Zoology. In his address, Dr. Ali highlighted the ecological significance of Ladakh’s high-altitude habitats and stressed the need for collective action to protect endangered and vulnerable species. He also underscored the crucial role of young students in becoming ambassadors of conservation, urging them to adopt environmentally ethical practices in their daily lives.
Following this, Dr. Shabir Hussain, faculty member of the Department of Zoology, delivered insightful and interactive sessions on key themes such as Wildlife Conservation and Emerging Threats to Biodiversity. He explained how climate change, habitat loss, and poaching continue to endanger species globally and regionally, while highlighting sustainable measures that could be implemented at the grassroots level. His session actively engaged students through discussions and questions, making it both informative and inspiring.
A major highlight of the celebration was the documentary screening on Wildlife Conservation, which provided rich visual narratives of challenges faced by wildlife in Ladakh and across the globe. The documentary showcased the beauty and vulnerability of nature, leaving a strong impression on the audience and sparking further dialogue on sustainable conservation actions.
On the occasion, the organizers and faculty members expressed their deep gratitude to Dr. Saleem Ahmad, Nodal Officer, GDC Sankoo Campus, for his unwavering support and constant encouragement of academic as well as extracurricular initiatives on campus.
