Government Degree College Khaltsi marked the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram” with a solemn and intellectually enriching programme, reflecting on its historical, cultural, and nationalist significance.
The programme commenced with Ms. Mepham Dolker, a sixth-semester student, serving as the host and introducing the proceedings. The event featured a series of insightful addresses by faculty members from the Department of Political Science.
Prof. Shah Nawaz, Assistant Professor of Political Science, delivered a detailed lecture highlighting the importance of Vande Mataram within the broader context of India’s freedom struggle. He spoke on the exploitative history of colonialism and underscored how the song functioned as a powerful unifying force, inspiring a divided nation to come together in a collective struggle against colonial rule.
The programme was also observed in the spirit of Shaheedi Divas, paying tribute to the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The occasion witnessed the collective singing of Vande Mataram by all present, including faculty and students, creating an atmosphere of shared patriotic fervour and unity.
Assistant Professor Mujtaba Tak further elaborated on the enduring significance of Vande Mataram as a rallying cry during the freedom movement.
