    GDC Zanskar celebrates World Book Day.
    Kargil, April 26, 2025: Central Library and Debate/Seminar Committee GDC Zanskar today organised a daylong event celebrating World Book Day.
    The event began with a tribute to the innocent lives lost in the recent terrorist attack in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir, followed by a two-minute silence.
    Mohd Ali Khan, librarian of the college presented the welcome address and enlightened the audience about the importance and objectives of observing the World Book Day.
    This day is generally held worldwide on 23rd April but due to inclement weather in Zanskar, the day was postponed to 26th April.
    Faculty members and students of the college attended the event. Two book reviews were presented on the occasion to mark the day.
    Dr Jamphel Sheyan, Assistant Professor English presented a detailed review of the book ‘Voice for the Voiceless’ written by His Holiness, Dalai Lama, covering the extraordinary life journey of discovering what it means to lose one’s home to a repressive invader and to build a life in exile.
    Dr Jamphel also threw light on the history of Tibet in the backdrop of the book review through a PowerPoint presentation.
    Dr Dorjay Namgyail, Assistant Professor of Sociology, presented a book review of the Discovery of India by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He expressed his thoughts regarding the book. Dr Dorjay told the audience that the Discovery of India a multifaceted exploration of India’s culture, history, philosophy and identity with an emphasis on its unity and resilience amidst diversity.
    Principal of the college, Mohd Ishaq also spoke on the occasion. He urged the students to develop the habit of book reading and highlighted its importance considering the era of digital content and information. He advised the students to read beyond their syllabi, which could help expand their thinking and imaginations.
    The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr Jamphel, Convenor Debate & Seminar Committee. Proceedings of the event were carried out by Stanzin Spalzom student of 6th Semester.
