    Zanskar, July 17, 2026: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organized a Freshers’ Cum Career Sensitization Programme to warmly welcome the newly admitted students and acquaint them with the academic environment, institutional facilities, and future career opportunities. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, Principal, GDC Zanskar, with active participation from faculty members and students.
    The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Hilal, Librarian, GDC Zanskar, who welcomed the faculty members, senior students, and, in particular, the first-semester students. In his address, he encouraged the freshers to cultivate the habit of reading and writing and to make effective use of the college library as a centre for learning, research, and intellectual growth.
    As a gesture of goodwill and hospitality, the freshers were felicitated with traditional Khataqs by Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, Principal, and Dr. Mohd Hussain, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, GDC Zanskar. The ceremonial welcome was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony, in which the newly admitted students joined the faculty members in celebrating the beginning of their academic journey at GDC Zanskar.
    The freshers were then invited to introduce themselves and showcase their talents through music, dance, poetry, speeches, and other creative performances. The session provided an opportunity for the newcomers to interact with their peers and teachers in a friendly atmosphere, helping them overcome hesitation and build confidence.
    An engaging game session was organized to encourage teamwork, creativity, communication, and leadership among the freshers. The participants enthusiastically performed a variety of fun-filled tasks designed to promote confidence, coordination, and mutual understanding. Winners of the games were felicitated with traditional Khataqs and pens as tokens of appreciation.
    Adding a cultural touch to the programme, Ms. Zhomskit, a student of the 5th Semester, presented a graceful dance performance on a traditional Zanskari song.
    Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, gave a comprehensive overview of the academic facilities, student support services, and opportunities available in the college. He encouraged the freshers to make the best use of the library, laboratories, sports facilities, and all other facilities to ensure their holistic development. He emphasized that the college provides an environment that nurtures academic excellence, leadership qualities, innovation, and social responsibility.
    He further advised the students that their college years are among the most crucial phases of life and urged them to remain disciplined, dedicated, and focused on their goals. He motivated them to continuously develop their knowledge, skills, and talents so that they could emerge as responsible citizens and contribute meaningfully to society. He also informed the students that NIELIT computer courses are currently being conducted in the college, they should actively seek opportunities to enhance their digital literacy by learning computers. He encouraged the students to prepare themselves for higher education, research, entrepreneurship, and various career opportunities by making the most of the academic guidance and resources available at the institution.
    The programme also recognized outstanding performances during the event. Ms. Stanzin Chuskit received the Best Dress award for her elegant presentation. The title of Mr. Fresher was conferred upon Mr. Stanzin Doat, while Ms. Daechen Chosdon was crowned Ms. Fresher. The newly crowned Mr. and Ms. Fresher concluded the celebrations with a delightful dance performance.
    The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Mr. Haider Ali Askary, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Principal for his guidance and encouragement, the faculty members for their wholehearted support, the organizing committee for the successful coordination of the programme, and all the students for their enthusiastic participation. He appreciated the efforts of both the senior and newly admitted students in making the event a memorable and successful.
