Gender-based Violence awareness camp held at Choglamsar

Leh, Dec 13: As a part of the ongoing month-long National Gender Campaign 2022, an awareness campaign on Elimination of Gender-based Violence, organised by the Rural Development Department, Leh was held at Halqa Panchayat Choglamsar II today.
Chairperson, Block Development Council, Leh; Councillor Phyang constituency; Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh; District Panchayat Officer, Leh; Block Development Officer, Leh and representatives from different line departments like Police, Health, Social Welfare, Legal Services, Education, ICDS Leh and Aadhar Coordinator, besides the Sarpanches of different halqa panchayat, PRI members, Self-Help Groups and public were present on the occasion.
All the dignitaries spoke at length about the various issues surrounding gender-based violence, various causes and reasons along with the different types of discrimination and violence based on gender, effective and proactive measures to eliminate such violence, legal remedies and mechanisms available to the victims, need for reporting and highlighting cases of gender-based violence and the utmost importance of awareness about the same among the public.
The speakers also spoke about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, necessary mental and emotional support to the victims, providing effective agencies to the women to uplift themselves socially and economically.
As a part of the awareness campaign, an Aadhar enrollment and updation stall, medical checkup stall and stalls highlighting the services and schemes of ICDS and Social Welfare were put up. Stalls displaying various handloom and food products of different SHGs were also installed.
The students from Government Middle School, Taru performed a skit showcasing the need to shun gender biases and discrimination.
