    GMDC Zanskar hosts 2nd edition of Ladakh Education Fair 2023.

    Kargil, August 24, 2023: Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education UT Ladakh and Ladakh Skill Development Mission, hosted the two-day Ladakh Education Fair-2023, aimed at providing students with reliable information about subject choices, career options, skills, and business opportunities.
    The event was inaugurated by Sonam Dorjay, Area Development Officer, Zanskar, and graced by Meme Tsultim Chonjor, Padma Shree Awardee. The fair saw participation from various local associations, schools, and dignitaries.
    During the inaugural session, Mohd Ishaq I/C principal welcomed the guest with traditional Khataks. He highlighted the objectives of the fair.
    He also informed the audience about the college’s focus on skill courses, including graphic design and hand embroidery, with the support of Ladakh Skill Development Mission.
    Meme Chonjor also shared his wisdom. Dr Jamphel Sheyan, faculty of English conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session.
    The fair featured model exhibition involving around 6 schools and college along with stalls from Handicraft, Revenue, Banks, Social Welfare Departments, women Self Help Groups, water testing unit of PHE department, college students ethnic food, Zanskar Ski School and NSP CSC Zanskar.
    Top three models were selected by the Jury members that include Dr Abid Hussain, faculty of Zoology, Waseem faculty of Geology and T. Dolkar faculty EVS.
    A photography exhibition showcasing students’ talent was also held. Top three students in photography were selected by the jury members including Murtaza Trainer Graphic designer and Mubarakh Ali Faculty of History.
    The 3rd session Skills Demonstration session was conducted. Notable experts from various fields including winter sports, contemporary painting, sculpting and sustainable development conducted skill demonstrations and discussions.
    Dr Ben Stephensen from England, Co-founder of Zanskar Ski School shared his experiences and journey. He also explained the various tools used in Skiing and Skating.
    Stanzin Dadul a local contemporary painter talked at length the various forms of painting. He also displayed his paintings using different materials including wood pieces and rocks.
    Galtsein a local Sculptor talked about the opportunities of the skill and the materials used. Suchi, a member of Jijivashi, NGO working in Zanskar on plastic pollution management, displayed how used papers and plastic could be converted in to useful products like pencil, caps, carry bags etc. The session was moderated by Spalzes Angmo Faculty Sociology.
    The post-lunch session stressed on career guidance and counseling covering a wide range of fields from science to sports and social sciences. International opportunities for UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses were also discussed.
    Mohd Ishaq talked on the various opportunities and career options in the field of Science. Mustafa Ali Physical Director informed students about careers in physical education, while Maaz Sheikh a Ph.D. Scholar from Alberta University presented a detailed presentation on overseas opportunities.
    Dr Jamphel talked about the interest and subject choice. Sajjad faculty of Political Science talked about the careers in Social Science and also moderated the session.
    Dr Robin from England also shared his experiences and career option in geophysics. The experts were appreciated with mementos for their contributions to the event.
    Overall, the first day of Ladakh Education Fair 2023 provided a platform for students to explore diverse educational and career prospects, with an emphasis on skills and international opportunities.
