    Zanskar, December 11, 2025: Government Model Degree College Zanskar observed World Mountain Day in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Zanskar Kargil, highlighting the importance of mountains and the need for their conservation. The event was organized under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal GMDC Zanskar, who emphasized the significance of mountains in maintaining ecological balance and supporting life on earth.
    The event featured a special Power Point Presentation by Mr. Rasool Lal, Tourist Officer, Zanskar, who shared his insights on the importance of Zanskar’s mountains and the region’s dependency on them. He highlighted the unique geological features of the Zanskar range and its impact on the local ecosystem. His presentation emphasized the need for conservation and sustainable development in the region, highlighting the challenges posed by climate change, tourism, and human activity.
    Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, Assistant Professor (English), GMDC Zanskar, stressed the urgent need to save glaciers and conserve mountain ecosystems by switching to organic products and reducing our carbon footprint.
    Students and faculty members shared their thoughts and ideas on how to promote conservation and sustainable use of mountain resources.
    A documentary on the mountains and glaciers of Zanskar region also screened for the students, providing them with valuable insights into the importance of preserving their natural heritage.
    The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mountains and the challenges they face, including climate change, biodiversity loss, ecological imbalance, deforestation, and unsustainable development.
    The college’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and conservation were appreciated by all the participations, who pledged to take action to protect the fragile mountain ecosystem.
    On this occasion, Dr. Vilayat Ali, Assistant Professor (History) GMDC Zanskar, presented a vote of thanks, expressing his sincere gratitude to all who made this event successful.
