Govt. Degree College Zanskar Hosts Interactive Educational Programme for Students of Marpaling Lamdon Model School.
Zanskar, August 28, 2026; Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organised an interactive and enriching educational programme for the students and staff of Marpaling Lamdon Model School, Zanskar, with the objective of familiarising young learners with the academic, laboratory, computer, sporting, high altitude trekking and other facilities available at the college.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GDC Zanskar, and coordinated by Dr. Mohd. Hussain, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
The programme commenced with a warm traditional welcome to the visiting Principal, staff and students of Marpaling Lamdon Model School. They were presented with traditional khataks as a gesture of respect and hospitality. Mr. Haider Ali Askary, Assistant Professor of Sociology, formally welcomed the visiting delegation and briefed the gathering about the objectives and significance of the programme.
Thereafter, Dr. Mohd. Hussain, In-charge Principal, GDC Zanskar, gave a comprehensive overview of the college, highlighting the various undergraduate courses, academic programmes and facilities available for students. He emphasised the role of higher education in nurturing academic excellence, critical thinking, practical skills and overall personality development.
Following, Mr. Rigzin, President, Management Committee, Marpaling Lamdon Model School also addressed the gathering. Mr. Rigzin stressed the students to explore the college and its curricular and co-curricular facilities. He also conveyed gratitude to the principal, faculty members, and staff of GDC Zanskar for providing this opportunity for the students to gain first-hand exposure of higher education.
The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kousar Fatima, Assistant Professor, History, following which the visiting students were taken to tour various facilities of the college.
As part of the visit, the students visited the science laboratories, where practical demonstrations and interactive sessions were conducted by faculty members, including Dr. Mohd. Salim, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies; Dr. Hadi, Assistant Professor of Botany; Dr. Sabir Hussain, Assistant Professor of Botany; and Mr. Mohd. Anwar, Assistant Professor of Geology. The students showed keen interest in the demonstrations and actively engaged with the faculty members in discussions relating to laboratory work, scientific concepts and practical learning.
The students subsequently visited the Skill Lab, where they were introduced to the facilities and opportunities available in the field of skill development. Ms. Nusrat Fatima, Graphic Designer, briefed the students about the Graphic Design course and its scope. While Ms. Neema, NIELIT staff member, apprised them of the facilities and learning opportunities available through NIELIT.
The visiting students also toured the college library, gymnasium and sports facilities, where they were briefed about the resources and activities available to students. They were also introduced to the college’s trekking and outdoor activities, providing them with an insight into the institution’s efforts towards holistic development through academics, physical fitness, sports, extracurricular activities and experiential learning.
At the conclusion of the programme, the Principal of Marpaling Lamdon Model School, Mr. Rejender Kumar Rana, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Principal, faculty members and staff of GDC Zanskar for organising the educational visit and extending a warm welcome to the students and staff. He particularly appreciated the detailed and qualitative demonstrations conducted in the laboratories, Skill Lab, library , and sports, gymnasium , and trekking facilities, where students had first-hand exposure to higher education facilities. He remarked that such programmes are highly beneficial for school students as they help them understand the opportunities available after school education and inspire them to pursue higher studies with greater awareness and confidence.
