    Grand Welcome for New DC Zanskar as He Assumes Charge, Vows People-Centric Governance and Development.

    Zanskar, April 29, 2026: The newly appointed Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendra Gundage, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the local populace on his arrival in the newly created district of Zanskar. At Shakma Karpo, Tehsildar along with officials, and local residents accorded a grand reception to the Deputy Commissioner.
    During his onward journey from Rangdum to Padum, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with people at various locations. At different gatherings en route, he congratulated the people on the historic achievement of Zanskar attaining district status, describing it as a long-pending demand fulfilled. From Shakma to Sani–Padum, he was welcomed with traditional khataqs, reflecting the rich cultural traditions of the region. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Shri Rigzin Sangdup, who accompanied him, also received a warm reception.
    Upon reaching Padum, the Deputy Commissioner formally assumed charge at the District Headquarters. Addressing officers and members of the public, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming welcome and stated that he feels a deep sense of belonging with the people of Zanskar.
    He extended his sincere thanks to the Lieutenant Governor, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, for his guidance and support. Emphasizing teamwork, he stated that with the expansion of administrative jurisdiction, coordinated efforts of all departments will be key to ensuring effective governance and development.
    The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the role of Ladakh Police in maintaining peace and communal harmony, adding that the district has set a strong example of unity. He assured that his office will remain open to the public and that all efforts will be made to address grievances and ensure welfare of the people.
    Meanwhile, SSP Shri Rigzin Sangdup also congratulated the people on the creation of Zanskar district and termed it a significant milestone. He assured that the police department will continue to work in close coordination with the civil administration to maintain law and order, ensure communal harmony, and provide effective doorstep services to the public.
    Both the Deputy Commissioner and SSP reiterated their commitment to work tirelessly for the development, peace, and prosperity of Zanskar.
