    Health Department Conducts De-Addiction Awareness Program at Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, Leh.
    Leh, June 26: The Health Department conducted an awareness session on de-addiction under the School Health Education program, part of the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) and the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), at Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, Leh.
    Dr. Stanzin Jamyang, District NTCP Consultant, delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the dangers of smoking and its link to lung cancer, stages and symptoms of lung cancer, and the risks associated with smoking. He also discussed smoking as a potential gateway to drug addiction.
    Phuntsok Diskit, NTCP Psychologist at SNM Hospital, Leh, addressed the addiction cycle, emphasizing how curiosity can lead to addiction despite bans on substances like “cool lip.” She highlighted the role of mobile counseling in de-addiction and encouraged students to avoid smoking and drugs.
    Jigmet Angmo, Clinical Psychologist at SNM Hospital, Leh, , spoke about identity crises and the neurological impact of drug abuse, including the release of dopamine and the challenges of dependency. She stressed the dangers of incomplete treatment and the severe consequences of addiction.
    Counsellor Deachen Angmo Paldan from Tele-MANAS, UT Ladakh, explained the usage of tele-manas for mental health support.
    The event was attended by the Principal of Lamdon School, teachers, medical officials, and students.
