    About the Department

    A Commissioner Secretary heads the Department of Higher Education. The Department of Higher Education is responsible for the overall development of the basic infrastructure of Higher Education sector, both in terms of policy and planning. The Department looks after expansion of access and qualitative improvement in Higher Education, through world class Universities, Colleges and other Institutions.

    Public Health Functions Integration

    The following core public health functions will be integrated into higher education institutions:

    1.Monitor Health Status

    Establish campus health surveillance systems and track student/faculty health indicators.

    2.Diagnose Health Problems

    Investigate health issues within academic communities and research health hazards.

    3.Health Education

    Develop health education curricula and awareness programs for students and staff.

    4.Community Partnerships

    Collaborate with local health authorities and community organizations.

    5.Policy Development

    Create health policies for educational institutions and research guidelines.

    6.Law Enforcement

    Ensure compliance with health regulations in educational settings.

    7.Health Services Linkage

    Connect students and staff with healthcare services and resources.

    8.Workforce Assurance

    Train healthcare professionals and ensure competent medical staff.

    9.Evaluation & Quality

    Assess health service quality and program effectiveness in institutions.

    Implementation Action Plan

    • Establish Health Monitoring Centers in all major universities
    • Develop standardized health education curriculum for all institutions
    • Create inter-departmental health task forces
    • Implement digital health surveillance platforms
    • Train faculty in health emergency response
    • Establish partnerships with medical colleges and hospitals
    • Develop research programs in public health education
    • Create student health ambassador programs
    • Implement regular health audits and quality assessments
