Hill Council Leh signed MoU with LEDeG to improve WASH services in Leh town
Leh, July 13: In yet another historic move, LAHDC Leh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) and Municipal Committee Leh at the Council Secretariat Leh today. LEDeG as the development partner will assist LAHDC Leh and MCL by providing technical assistance for improving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services in Leh town.
Officials from LEDeG gave a detailed presentation on the current scenario of water and sanitation management based on a baseline survey of Leh town. They highlighted issues such as management of public toilets, insufficient water supply, water-bodies management, and solid waste management. Later the MoU was signed with the representation from the parties including the CEO LAHDC Leh, EO MCL and ED LEDeG.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC Tashi Gyalson extended his gratitude to the team from LEDeG for their assistance to the Hill Council in particular and Ladakh at large for a number of social welfare projects and initiatives for a long time. He stated that to consolidate and take the developmental procedures further, forming a partnership brings together capacity, resources, and linkages towards a model and demonstration of sustainable development. He said that such a partnership will put in place a mechanism and procedures to facilitate the involvement of all the stakeholders in the development process in an accountable manner.
