Leh, July 12, 2025: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), in the presence of First Lady, Smt Neelam Mishra, launched the logo of Mudu Unna (Soft Wool) Pashmina Ladakh for women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Ladakh under the concept, ‘Pashmina: The Soft Gold of Ladakh’ in New Delhi.
The Mudu Unna logo was conceptualised by First Lady Neelam Mishra and designed by Kaninika Mishra.
Speaking on the occasion, the HLG informed that Mudu Unna was chosen by the First Lady from Pali language, with Mudu meaning soft and Unna referring to wool. Highlighting the efforts made by the UT Administration in promoting Ladakhi Pashmina for better livelihood of those engaged in rearing of pashmina goats in the Changthang area along with providing pashmina kid pens to reduce the mortality of pashmina goat kids in the winter months, the HLG hoped that Ladakhi Pashmina will go a long way in empowering women, particularly those engaged in self-help groups.
Earlier, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Ladakh Bhawan, Delhi, Sonam Chhosdon, JKAS, informed about the need for an umbrella brand for Ladakhi women artisans, viz. unify the efforts of multiple SHGs and cooperatives under a single, recognisable identity; enhance market access by creating a unified brand that represents authenticity, quality, and sustainability; empower women artisans by providing fair wages, skill development, and a platform for collective bargaining and preserve tradition by promoting traditional techniques and ensuring their transmission to future generations.
