    Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participates in 28th Sindhu Darshan Festival as chief guest.
    Leh, June 24, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and First Lady Neelam Mishra participated in the 28th Sindhu Darshan Festival at Sindhu Ghat, Shey. The event, to be held from June 23 till 27, was organised by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti along with Tourism Department, UT Ladakh and North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.
    Speaking on the occasion, the HLG stated that the Sindhu Darshan Festival started by Shri LK Advani almost 28 years ago with a few participants has now grown manifold and the festival now sees substantial participation from across the country. The HLG expressed his joy to see the celebration of the Festival in Kargil this year.
    The HLG stated that UT Ladakh is prepared to accommodate around ten thousand attendees to celebrate 30 years of Sindhu Darshan. He highlighted the support from both Chairman of LAHDCs, Executive Councillors/Councillors and the public to UT Administration for overall Ladakh’s development without mixing religion and politics.
    Highlighting the importance of national unity for progress and prosperity, the HLG stated that this would help in achieving the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He hoped to see the Sindhu Festival becoming bigger with each passing year.
    Earlier, the HLG along with other dignitaries laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Buddha Statue at Sindhu Ghat.
    Chairman, LAHDC, Leh, Shri Tashi Gyalson, stated that the Sindhu Darshan Festival was celebrated for the first time in 1996. He informed about the historical values and tourism aspects of Indus River. He also informed about various steps taken by LAHDC Leh to maintain the Indus River and reduce the pollution level of the River.
    Shri Gyalson informed about the UT Administration and LAHDC Leh’s plan to preserve the Indus Riverfront and the establishment of the Jullay Leh Biodiversity Park at Shey Manla. He stated that the laying of the foundation of Buddha statue at Sindhu Ghat symbolises universal peace and harmony.
    Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer stated that the Sindhu Darshan Festival has been celebrated in Kargil for the first time. He said that the festival would be celebrated on the banks of the Sindhu River in Aryan Valley next year. He highlighted the communal harmony between Leh and Kargil districts and informed about the approval given for the construction of the Buddhist Gonpa in Kargil.
    Chief Patron, Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti, Shri Indresh Kumar and His Eminence Palga Rinpoche also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of Sindhu or Indus River and the celebration of Sindhu Festival at a large scale.
    Singers and dancers from different parts of the country also performed on the occasion.
